Meet Gail!
The Turning Point
In 2004, my life changed forever.
Following a near-death experience, I found myself reflecting on questions that many of us eventually face: Why am I here? What is my purpose? Am I truly living the life I was called to live?
That experience became a catalyst for deeper reflection and a stronger commitment to living intentionally. It challenged me to move beyond fear, trust God more fully, and begin embracing the calling that had been quietly unfolding throughout my life.
I realized that my gifts were not simply meant to create things. They were meant to help people heal, grow, and reconnect with who they were created to be.
The Reset
Like many people, my path has not been without challenges.
There were seasons marked by heartbreak, uncertainty, and rebuilding. The end of a marriage, years of searching for professional opportunities, financial challenges, long commutes, personal loss, and moments when the future seemed unclear all became part of my story.
There were times when I questioned myself. Times when I felt forgotten. Times when I wondered if the doors I was praying for would ever open.
Yet it was during those difficult seasons that I learned some of life's greatest lessons. I learned that healing is not a destination but a process. I learned that faith often requires moving forward before we can see the entire path. Most importantly, I learned that our setbacks do not define us.
Those experiences became the inspiration behind The Reset: Returning to Grace: A Journey of Healing, Rebuilding, and Living on Purpose.
The Reset is more than a book. It is a reflection of a journey that taught me how to release what no longer serves me, embrace grace, and begin again.
Purpose Today
Today, I serve as an educator, author, speaker, visual artist, and founder of Mindful Marks Creative.
Through workshops, speaking engagements, creative wellness programs, and my writing, I help individuals and organizations create space for reflection, resilience, healing, and growth. My work is rooted in the belief that creativity is not reserved for artists—it is a powerful tool that helps all of us process experiences, discover new possibilities, and reconnect with our purpose.
Whether through a mindful mark on a page, a conversation that sparks hope, or a story that reminds someone they are not alone, my goal is simple:
To help others pause, reflect, heal, and move forward with intention.
Because sometimes the greatest transformation doesn't come from becoming someone new.
It comes from returning to who you were always meant to be.
The Journey to Purpose
Where It All Began
Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, creativity has been woven into my story for as long as I can remember. At just eight years old, I designed and sewed my first garment, unaware that this simple act of creativity would become the foundation for a lifelong journey of learning, healing, and purpose.
As I grew, my love for the arts expanded beyond fashion. Music became another outlet for expression, leading me to earn a Bachelor of Music in Education from Alcorn State University. Years later, I would continue my creative and professional growth by earning a Master of Fine Arts in Design.
Looking back, I can see that every chapter of my life was preparing me for something greater than I could have imagined.
The Educator and Creative
For more than twenty-five years, I have dedicated my life to education, creativity, and service. As a teacher, adjunct instructor, curriculum developer, and mentor, I have had the privilege of helping students and adult learners discover their potential and find confidence in their own voices.
At the same time, I pursued my passion for fashion design, creating garments and styling for artists, performers, and public figures. Whether I was standing in a classroom, designing a collection, writing a column, hosting a radio show, or teaching a workshop, my mission remained the same: to inspire others through creativity and self-expression.
Creativity has never been just about making something beautiful. For me, it has always been about helping people see what is possible.
“The journey wasn’t about becoming someone new. It was about returning to the person God created me to be.”
Your story isn't over.
Whether you're reaching out to schedule a speaking engagement, ask about The Reset, or simply share your journey, I'd love to hear from you.
May God's grace meet you exactly where you are, and may every ending become the beginning of something beautiful.
